The popularity of reusing old discarded lumber from old torn down barns and sheds ( i.e. REAL BARN WOOD) grows every day. The beauty and charm of these weathered barns cannot be replaced, …and, this is especially true if the barn has long term personal sentiment / loving memories associated with it. These feelings and thoughts are certainly the case in the Handmade Barn Wood Sofa Console Table shown below.
The lumber in this table, with the exception of the legs, all came from a family barn built some 40 years ago. More specifically, the lumber came from a large barn door on the 40 year old barn. Below is a picture of the actual barn door before we disassembled it.
Obviously, the appearance of the table versus the appearance of the old barn door are drastically different. The difference is all related to planing the surface of the barn door lumber to get a smooth table top surface. The color of the wood after planing showed the beauty of the wood as shown in the pictures above (the table top). [Note: The only ‘staining’ done to the table top wood was a clear ‘Natural’ oil stain… and the final finish applied was a clear Satin Polyurethane for long term beauty and .]
For reference, all the painted surfaces: the shelf, the apron, and the table legs were all stained and then painted “Cottage White” to match the chair you can see sitting beside the table.
There are plans to build additional keepsake items from this old barn door lumber and other barn wood pieces after the weather warms up and is permitting. (Most folks know that Just Fine Tables builds the majority of our table furniture items outside in the open air.)
Please note that Just Fine Tables have additional console tables, wine bar buffet tables, kitchen farm tables, and a kitchen island or two planned in the near future. For example, here is a small wine bar stand where we replaced the top with a rustic barn wood top for beauty and style.
