Just Fine Tables made a blazing trip between snow and ice storms to Tennessee and picked up the Solid Oak Pedestal Table and Chairs that we purchased back in December. We purchased them from a Church Thrift Store where the table and chair set had been in the Church Parsonage since the late 1970’s – early 1980’s based upon the construction dates found underneath the items.
They were in great shape considering their age, but it was decided that the set could use a little updating (i.e. refinishing) for today’s furniture tastes.

REFINISHED SOLID OAK PEDESTAL TABLE and MATCHING CHAIRS (42″ Round; 42″ x 62″Oval)
As noted, the Oak Pedestal Table came with Two Leaves (10″ each) which allowed the table to grow from a 42″ Round Table up to a 42″ x 62″ Oval Table. The entire set was stained originally in a classic ‘Early American’ stain.
For our refinishing, we stripped the table top and leaves and applied our proprietary aging stain along with Dark Walnut to give the color you see in the picture. The table base and the chairs were all lightly Sanded, Primed, Painted Cottage White, and Lightly Distressed. And then, a water resistant polyurethane finish was applied to the entire set for durability and extended life.
As typical, Just Fine Tables placed the Pedestal Table and Chairs Set in Booth 47 / 469 at Encore Resales to help the set find a new permanent home. As you can see with the “SOLD” sign, the set is now enjoying a new home and family.
Along with the Pedestal Table and Matching Chairs Set, Just Fine Tables finally ( That’s Finally) completed the restoration and refinishing of a 1900’s chair found at an Estate Sale in the Highland Park area of downtown Birmingham, AL. The chair as found was covered in coal dust that had accumulated over the years. Needless to say, the chair was dirty, and had to be cleaned thoroughly before one could return it to service.
The cleaning was done with God’s help (rain storm or two) over the past 6-8 months with some added personal ‘elbow grease’ to be able to see the chair’s potential. The chair was then restored by firming it up structurally, painting it, and then distressing it for overall use and beauty.
